Chronic pain treatment and management
Pain Therapy in Mallorca & Andalusia
In our clinic on Mallorca and in Andalusia, we offer our innovative pain therapy with ketamine. Our multimodal pain therapy is effective for chronic pain, including pain during or after cancer treatment, phantom pain or pain after an operation. Pain therapy in Mallorca and Andalusia usually consists of a combination of ketamine infusions, hypnosis, psychotherapy and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS). The therapy is always individually tailored to the patient’s needs.
Chronic pain – effects and causes
Chronic pain massively affects the quality of life and often leads to depressive developments. On the other hand, some depressions also show up as somatized depressions with severe pain. Depression and pain go hand in hand. It is estimated that more than 5 percent of the population suffers from chronic pain.
Many conditions can be considered as causes of chronic pain, including:
- Fibromyalgia,
- rheumatic diseases,
- degenerative diseases of the skeletal system
- Consequences of diabetes
- Injuries after accidents (e.g. phantom pain)
- cancer and pain resulting from its treatment
Treatment of chronic pain – pain therapy with ketamine
Ketamine is originally an anesthetic. It has been used successfully in treatment of chronic pain for a long time. It works particularly well when pain and depression coincide: it reduces the pain and relieves the depression.
To achieve a lasting effect, we combine ketamine infusions with transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS).
Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation for chronic pain
In neuropathic pain, where structures of the peripheral or central nervous system are damaged, the effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is particularly high. The combination of both methods enhances the effect and often leads to long-lasting therapeutic success within a short period o time.
Hypnosis in the treatment of chronic pain
Hypnosis is also particularly effective in the treatment of chronic pain. Hypnosis succeeds in switching off or changing the perception of pain. The patient then learns to reduce the pain as needed through self-hypnosis and thus becomes independent of the therapist.
Depending on the type of pain, other relaxation and psychotherapy methods can also be used in addition. EMDR is particularly suitable for the treatment of phantom pain.

Frequently asked questions about our Ketamine treatment
For privately insured patients, treatment is usually covered – depending on the contract. For patients with statutory german health insurance, the decision is often made on a case-by-case basis. If a depression has already been treated several times without success, it is called therapy-resistant depression. In this case, the chances are good of the costs being covered or at least a contribution to the costs is approved.
We are currently the only center in Europe where ketamine therapy, rTMS and intensive psychotherapy are offered simultaneously.
Ketamine is also used in the drug scene – but in a much higher dosage and not as a continuous infusion, but as a single dose. At this dosage, the depth of the trance cannot be controlled. Continuous use of high doses can cause chronic bladder infections.
There is no potential for dependence at the dosage used to treat depression and other conditions.
Ketamine has been an approved drug since 1970. When used for the treatment of depression, compulsions, etc., it is a so-called “off label” treatment. These therapies are common and legal, but are not always covered by health insurance.
