Long-Covid Syndrome - treatment with Ketamine and rTMS

Long Covid Studie, rTMS bei Post Covid Syndrom

Long Covid / Post Covid Syndrome is a condition associated with symptoms that are present after a covid infection and persist for more than 6 months. It is also called “chronic fatigue”.

A not inconsiderable proportion of patients develop long-term consequences after a Covid-19 infection. The frequency varies between 10% and over 70% depending on the study. Symptoms such as general weakness (fatigue), depression, and smell and taste disorders are particularly common.

Typical symptoms for long covid / post covid syndrome:

  • Memory and concentration problems
  • Extreme fatigue, similar to the flu
  • Sleep disturbances, non-restorative sleep, leg movements and twitching at night
  • Exertion worsens symptoms for more than 24 hours
  • Muscle and joint pain without redness or swelling
  • headache
  • Sore throat
  • Sensitive lymph nodes on the neck/under the armpits
  • Depressive moods
  • Fever
  • Visual disturbances
  • Pronounced fatigue,
  • tiredness and reduced resilience

A particularly typical feature of Long Covid is that physical exertion usually aggravates the condition, sometimes resulting in flu-like symptoms.
Many of these symptoms also appear in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS). In chronic inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system, there are studies that indicate the effectiveness of both ketamine as well as repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation . Since both methods have long been used by us to treat depression which is also often part of the post-Covid symptoms, we have conducted a study on this.

Initial results show that significant and rapid improvements in fatigue, depression and even in smell and taste disorders can be achieved in most patients.

Since both procedures show practically no relevant side effects after excluding possible contraindications, we have decided to regularly include the treatment of long-Covid patients in our therapy offer. As in our study design, we offer 6 ketamine infusions together with 20 units of rTMS over two weeks. Depending on the individual situation, this procedure can of course also be modified.

Long Covid Treatment

The young woman in the video participated in our Long Covid / post Covid study in our practice in Munich. The study is for the treatment of Post Covid Syndrome with ketamine infusions and rTMS
After two weeks of treatment, the fatigue symptoms and the accompanying depressive moods had decreased significantly, so that she has been able to cope with her life much better since then.

The young man in this YouTube video is another of the study participants in our practice in Munich for the treatment of Post Covid Syndrome with ketamine infusions and rTMS.

After just over two weeks of treatment, he had improved from 60 to 11 on the Fatigue Severity Scale. His life is also largely back to the way it was before the Covid-19 illness.

Similar symptoms of post covid , also called chronic fatigue, also occur in other diseases such as multiple sclerosis, cancer, fibromyalgia or certain viral infections. Treatments with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) have already been successfully performed for these conditions.

We extend rtMS treatment for Long Covid Syndrome in parallel with ketamine infusions, which stimulates brain plasticity, the brain’s capacity to build new and functional connectivity. rTMS synergistically enhances the effect of ketamine therapy and provides a more sustained improvement in Long Covid symptoms. Our treatments are scientifically monitored.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), which occurs with Long Covid, differs from other fatigue conditions primarily in that physical exertion usually exacerbates the condition for more than 24 hours, and flu-like symptoms sometimes occur.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) proposes a definition of chronic fatigue syndrome that is limited to the main symptoms of the condition. According to the IOM, three of the following symptoms must be persistently present for a diagnosis to be made:

  •  A new onset of substantial limitation in occupational, educational, social, or personal activities lasting longer than six months and accompanied by fatigue.
  • fatigue after physical exertion
  • non-restorative sleep

In addition, at least one of the following two symptoms must be present:

  • cognitive impairment (e.g. impaired memory, attention and information processing [slowing])
  • orthostatic intolerance

Study on Long Covid

In our practices, we already successfully treat various clinical pictures such as depression and other neurological and mental illnesses with ketamine infusions in combination with rTMS and have had good experience with this form of treatment.
The rTMS treatments are performed by specialized staff and under the supervision of medical specialists.

Our studies demonstrate the efficacy of combination therapy with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation and ketamine therapy in the treatment of long covid as well.
The study we conducted in our practice in Munich examined the treatment of Long Covid with the gentle and targeted procedure of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in combination with ketamine infusions.

In this procedure, the ketamine promotes brain plasticity and targets the brain region responsible for fatigue with magnetic stimulation.

Treatment with rTMS in combination with ketamine therapy is harmless and painless.
After the positive results in our studies, we now offer this treatment in our practices in Berlin and Munich and our clinic in Mallorca.

The legal basis for processing for the fulfillment of our legal obligations is Art. 6 para. 1 lit. c DSGVO. If the processing of your data is necessary to protect a legitimate interest of our company or a third party and the interests, fundamental rights and freedoms of the data subject do not override the former interest, Art. 6 (1) (f) DSGVO serves as the legal basis for the processing. In the event that vital interests of the data subject or another natural person make processing of personal data necessary, Art. 6 (1) lit. d DSGVO serves as the legal basis.

Data deletion and storage period
We adhere to the principles of data minimization according to Art. 5 para. 1 lit. c DSGVO and storage limitation according to Art. 5 para. 1 lit. e DSGVO. We store your personal data only for as long as is necessary to achieve the purposes stated here or as provided for by the retention periods stipulated by law. After the respective purpose ceases to apply or after these retention periods have expired, the corresponding data will be deleted as quickly as possible.

Note on data transfer to third countries
Our website also includes tools from companies based in third countries (including, in particular, the USA). If these tools are active, your personal data may be transmitted to the servers of the respective companies. You can recognize external links either by the fact that they are displayed in a different color from the rest of the text or underlined. Your cursor will show you external links when you move it over such a link. Only when you click on an external link will your personal data be transferred to the target of the link. In doing so, the operator of the other website receives in particular your IP address, the time at which you clicked on the link, the page on which you clicked on the link, as well as further information, which you will find in the data protection notices of the respective provider.

Please also note that individual links may lead to data transfer outside the European Economic Area. This could give foreign authorities access to your data. You may not be entitled to any legal remedies against these data accesses. Rights of the data subject
As a data subject within the meaning of the GDPR, you have the opportunity to assert various rights. The data subject rights resulting from the GDPR are the right to information (Article 15), the right to rectification (Article 16), the right to erasure (Article 17), the right to restriction of processing (Article 18), the right to object (Article 21), the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority and the right to data portability (Article 20).

Right of withdrawal:

Some data processing can only take place with your express consent. You have the option to revoke your consent at any time. However, the legality of the data processing until the revocation is not affected by this.

Right of objection:

If the processing is based on Art. 6(1)(e) or (f) DSGVO, you, as the data subject, may object to the processing of personal data relating to you at any time for reasons arising from your particular situation. You also have this right in the case of profiling based on these provisions iSd Art. 4 Z 4 DSGVO. If we cannot demonstrate a legitimate interest for the processing that overrides your interests, rights and freedoms, or if the processing serves the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims, we will refrain from processing your data after the objection has been made.

If the processing of personal data serves the purpose of direct marketing, you also have the right to object at any time. The same applies to profiling associated with direct advertising. Here, too, we will no longer process personal data as soon as you raise an objection.

Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority:

If you believe that the processing of personal data concerning you infringes the GDPR, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the member state of your residence, workplace or the place of the alleged infringement, without prejudice to any other administrative or judicial remedy.

Right to data portability:

If your data is processed automatically on the basis of consent or performance of a contract, you have the right to receive this data in a structured, common and machine-readable format. In addition, you have the right to request that the data be transferred and made available to another controller, insofar as this is technically feasible.

Right of access, rectification and deletion:

You have the right to obtain information about your processed personal data regarding the purpose of the data processing, the categories, the recipients as well as the duration of the storage. If you have any questions on this topic or on other topics regarding personal data, you can of course contact us using the contact options provided in the imprint.

Right to restriction of processing:

You can assert the restriction of the processing of your personal data at any time. To do so, you must meet one of the following requirements:

You dispute the accuracy of the personal data. For the duration of the verification of the accuracy, you have the right to request a restriction of processing.
If processing is carried out unlawfully, you may request restriction of the use of the data as an alternative to erasure.
If we no longer need your personal data for the purposes of processing, but you need the data for the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims, you may, as an alternative to erasure, request restriction of processing.
If you object to the processing pursuant to Art. 21 (1) DSGVO, a balancing of your and our interests will be carried out. Until this balancing has taken place, you have the right to request the restriction of processing.
The consequence of a restriction of processing is that, apart from storage, the personal data may only be processed with your consent or for the assertion, exercise or defense of legal claims or for the protection of the rights of another natural or legal person or for reasons of important public interest of the Union or a Member State.

Kristine Taege Kristine Taege medizinische Fitnesstrainerin Mallorca

Medicinal fitness trainer | Personal trainer
Languages: German | English | Spanish

My name is Kristine. In 2015 I turned my passion for sports into my profession with the goal to help people feel more comfortable in their bodies. In 2019 I started working with people who have different psychological problems or limitations. Helping clients through my therapy, in a supportive way through sports and exercise and being able to witness the process of recovery is something that makes me very happy.

I am a medical fitness trainer and personal trainer. An important part of my work is to build up and strengthen specific muscle groups and the body. Because only a healthy body can house a healthy soul.

The training I create helps to boost metabolism and support the detoxification process.

Another point is an improvement of imbalances, back problems, joint problems, posture problems and to support the cardiovascular system through the training.

Helping people feel more comfortable in their bodies again is my primary goal!

I also do stretching classes to improve flexibility. Mobility training also takes up a large part of my work to get or keep the body in better flow.

Other important points are relaxation exercises, coordination, strengthening of deep muscles and balance. I always keep an eye on the correct movement and flow and immediately adapt the workouts to my clients' needs if necessary. I always look for solutions to make my clients feel good in their bodies during and after the workouts and create a workout that meets their needs.
